Christmas Morning

It is now 8:34 of the morning of December 25, Christmas! The kids are still sleeping and I just finished reading John 16 in my Arabic Bible for my morning devotions. As I walked outside I realize that no one knows it’s Christmas. No one is aware of the incarnation of the Word. The joy that the angles spoke of and the shepherds published all around is not known here in this city of 2 million people. No one will be giving gifts in celebration today. No one will be gathering at friends and family’s homes to read Luke 2 as I did as a child. It is just another Sunday among 52 others this year. Muslim cities around the world are in this same situation today. 1.5 billion Muslims woke up and didn’t celebrate Christ today around the world.

I won’t lie, the lack of celebration around us makes it difficult to enjoy the season. Collective joy does a lot for individual joy. Christmas away from all the festivities reminds us, though, of what Christmas is about and why we are here on the other side of the world.

Today we will join to worship with five new believers who have recently left Islam. It’s a small collection but it’s a start.

Merry Christmas! Enjoy it! Give gifts and don’t regret the money spent! Weep for those who don’t know Him.
